The Same December is a Prince (as ) video released for broadcast. The song was not released as a single (not even a promotional release).
The video was shot on 8 November 1994 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota. The first version was premiered on 3 March 1995 before the concert given at the Wembley Arena in London, England and shown before the concerts of the The Ultimate Live Experience tour in Europe (along with videos for 18 & Over, Zannalee and Empty Room). Special effects (including digitally created 1999 and The Gold Experience records spinning) were added in June 1996 for the official release of the video.
The Same December alludes to Prince’s conflict with record companies and compares it to the conflict between black and white North Americans (illustrated by the face of various members of
The NPG painted in black and white). Of note, Mayte wears the same angel outfit as in the videos for Empty Room and Dolphin.
Morris Hayes portrays a business executive, who forces Prince to sign a lifetime record contract and pays off a shady-looking Sonny T. with money from Prince’s briefcase. However, Prince soon returns to the conference room with two bodyguards and
proceeds to beat Hayes up and physically throw him out of Paisley Park. Oddly, the video starts with the outro of the song.
Much like with Come, videos for other songs from Chaos And Disorder (I Like It There and Zannalee) were available but were not released to promote the album.
