This entry details the shooting of a Target commercial with Prince performing the song Dreamer. This 30-second video was created to promote the 3CD package that included Lotusflow3r, MPLSound and Bria Valente’s first and only album Elixer sold exclusively at Target..
The video, shot in late March 2009 at Universal Studios, Universal City, California, features Prince performing a segment of the song on a circular stage with a backdrop reminiscent of the MPLSound album cover.
The song was not filmed in its entirety however and this video probably uses all the footage that was taken. Filming was indeed cut short following a disagreement between Prince and director Mathew Cullen during the shooting. A crew member reported the following story on Facebook after Prince's passing in 2016:
"Early on in the day, the director explains to him that they’re gonna put them in a 10 foot diameter room with mirrored, walls, floors and turntable. At a particular point in the song he’s singing, the turntable will rotate. He does not like the idea, and says "we won’t do that". The director says "OK"........They roll camera and music, you could tell on the monitor he was playing half heartedly, definitely not into it. 30 seconds into the take, the director goes "cue"!, art guys hit the turntable button and it starts to rotate........The turntable does one full rotation, he steps off the back of it, claps his hands in front of him and stands there. The assistant director shouts "cut", the door opens and the director asks "are you ok?", Prince calmly replies goodnight and walks off the stage. ........There was 45 minutes of serious a**-kissing but he never returned."
