Screwdriver is a Prince video released to promote the single. Another entirely different video was made available for download a few weeks later (see here). Both were (mainly) shot at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota in December 2012.
On 22 January 2013, this lyrics music video was premiered the same day as the launch of Prince’s new website: 20pr1nc3.com. The video was streamed on the website via a private Vimeo account in HD format.
The video shows Prince singing the studio version of Screwdriver, playing guitar and keyboards with Ida Nielsen on bass, Donna Grantis on guitar and Hannah Ford on drums, while the lyrics of the song are displayed on screen in various colors in a typeface named 'Meloriac'. The video also contains footage of dancer Lala Escarzega who also appeared in the 2009 videos for Crimson And Clover and Chocolate Box. The image has received a bi-color process treatment in black/yellow, black/purple, black/red, black/blue and black/green.
Although the video features Prince and his new band 3rdEyeGirl, the audio of the song is the single and future album version with Prince, Ida Nielsen (on bass) and John Blackwell (on drums).
