Walk Don’t Walk is the eighth track on the album Diamonds And Pearls, the first album credited to Prince and the New Power Generation.

Basic tracking took place on 2 July 1990 at Olympic Studios in London, England (during the same set of sessions that produced Daddy Pop, Schoolyard and Oobey Doop, but mostly focused on Rosie Gaines’ first solo album, recording My Tender Heart, Hold Me, Pain, Streetwalker, In The Name Of Love and Turn Your Lights Down Low).

With Rosie Gaines, Elisa Fiorillo added her background vocals to the song, having been invited by Prince to take in the Nude Tour show in Cork Ireland, on 7 July 1990. She flew to London with the band after the show, and then joined them in the studio the next day.

The track was included as the second track on the December 1990, configuration of Diamonds And Pearls, but was moved to become the eighth track on the 1 March 1991 and 8 May 1991 configurations, where it remained for release. In early 1993, Walk Don’t Walk was included as the b-side on a planned single of Blue Light, but the single was left unreleased.
