Your Love Is So Hard is an unreleased song recorded at some point in 1989 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It is not known if the track was planned for any particular project at the time of recording. Rosie Gaines also recorded her vocal on a version.
The track is an upbeat stripped-down track with occasional synth horns, synth strings and sampled vocal clips (as was common in Prince recordings of the era).
The song’s lyrics are lighthearted and include the narrator pleading with his love to try to work things out, even though they are not "the perfect match".
The track opens with the lyrics "Dateline 1989", which indicate that it would not have been released after that year in the same form.
