Delirious is the third track on Prince’s fifth album 1999, and, ten months after the album’s release, Delirious was released as the album’s fourth worldwide single, although it was the third single in all territories where it was released (the third single, D.M.S.R., had been released only in the UK, where Delirious was not released). The full length version of the song (which was edited down for 1999) was released in 2019 as the second track on the Vault Tracks part 2 disc of a Super Deluxe Edition edition of the 1999 album.

In 1993, the track was included as the sixth track on Prince’s compilation album The Hits 2 (also included as the second disc of The Hits / The B-Sides).

In 2006, the track was included as the fifth track on the first disc of the compilation album Ultimate.

In 2008, a 2007 live recording of the track was included as the fourth track on Prince’s fourth live album Indigo Nights, as the third track in a medley containing Girls & Boys, Song Of The Heart, Delirious and Just Like U (Monologue).

Basic tracking took place on 9 May 1982 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California (seven days after Automatic).
