Sleep Around is the seventh track on the third disc of Prince’s 19th album Emancipation, the third album to be credited to .

Basic tracking took place at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota in mid-July 1996 (on the same day as the recordings of Dreamin’ About U, The Love We Make, The Divine and the re-recording of Emale). Having enjoyed his work with R. Kelly, Prince invited recording engineer and mixer Peter Mokran to Paisley Park Studios to work on the song. Mokran created several mixes of Sleep Around, but Prince didn't like any of them. He then solicited engineers César Sogbe (who also worked on Chaos And Disorder) and Joe Galdo to work on the track further.
