Sarah is the ninth track on Prince’s 22nd album The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in early February 1996 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced Damned If Do and Saviour). It was one of the final Paisley Park Studios sessions to feature Michael B., Sonny T. and Tommy Barbarella as regular members of ’s band.
Although the track was recorded almost three years after Prince changed his name to , the release is credited to Prince, and so it is credited as such here.
It is not known if the name "Sarah" refers to anyone in particular, or if it is simply a character for the song.
