I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man is the fourth and final commercial single to be released from Prince’s ninth album Sign O’ The Times (although Hot Thing was also released as a promo-only single), released seven months after the album’s release, and received release around the world.
While it contained two remixes of Hot Thing, it did not include a non-album track b-side. Of note is that the Hot Thing remixes were produced by Shep Pettibone and edited by Junior Vasquez and Shep Pettibone; the first time a single featured remixes by an outside producer (although Pop Life featured a remix produced by Sheila E.).
The single reached number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
The single was re-released as part of the Sign O’ The Times Singles collection in 2020.
