Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic is a remix album released as a companion piece to Prince’s 23rd full-length studio album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name  ). The album was sent on CD to premium members during the first year of the NPG Music Club, and later available for purchase from the NPG Music Club as a stand-alone item.
The album followed a similar song structure to Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, but two tracks (Everyday Is A Winding Road and Strange But True) were removed, and a different track (Beautiful Strange, which had previously been released on the Beautiful Strange home video in an alternate form) was added.
Five of the tracks are remixes with new musical elements (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic, Undisputed (The Moneyapolis Mix), The Greatest Romance Ever Sold, Hot Wit U (Nasty Girl Remix), and Man‘O’War (Remix)).
Four songs are the same recording as the originals, with an extended portion at the end of the song (Tangerine, The Sun, The Moon And Stars, Baby Knows and Prettyman). The remaining tracks are identical to the original release, although Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do removes the 5:35 silence which followed the track on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
Promotion
No singles were released from this album (although The Greatest Romance Ever Sold was released commercially from Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, and both Baby Knows and Man‘O’War were available promotionally).
The album was not eligible for charts, as it was available by mail order only.
On 26 April 2019, the album was re-released by The Prince Estate and Sony’s Legacy Recordings on the same day as the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic album. A box-set named Ultimate Rave containing both albums and the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD was also released on this day.
