All The Critics Love U In New York is the tenth track on Prince’s fifth album 1999, and, three months after the album’s release, was included in edited form as a b-side on some versions of the single Little Red Corvette, the album’s second single.
In 2008, a 2007 live recording of the track was included as the 15th and final track on Prince’s fourth live album Indigo Nights (ending with a coda made up of audience members raving about the show over the background of Batdance).
While specific recording dates are not known, All The Critics Love U In New York was recorded in early 1982, most likely at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California. It was added to material recorded later when the 1999 album was compiled.
Prince has often changed the name of the city in the title when performing in 2002 and beyond. Two live versions have been released, titled All The Critics Love U In Paris and All The Critics Love U In London (see details below).
