Drawers Burnin’ was recorded as a 3-minute jam titled Song #1 on 30 May 1985 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California (on the same day as For Love) but not as a finished song. It was performed live for the first and only time on 7 June 1985 at Prom Center, St. Paul, MN, USA (a one-off concert to celebrate Prince’s 27th birthday), as part of a lengthy medley which also included Irresistible Bitch, Possessed, The Bird and Holly Rock.

The song bears striking similarities with Fleetwood Mac’s World Turning from the band’s 1975 eponymous album and seems to be Prince’s playfully mocking cover of the song, with perhaps improvised lyrics that include criticisms of the side effects of fame, including people trying to take pictures of him.
