Father's Song is an instrumental recorded on 29 October 1983 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA. It was tentatively included on an early configuration of Purple Rain. The song appears in the Purple Rain movie, where Prince's character "The Kid" plays the song on piano after discovering his father's sheet music for the song. Predating the recording of the standalone track, the main melody was included as a motif in Computer Blue.
In 2017 Father's Song was released as the eleventh track on the From The Vault & Previously Unreleased disc of a Deluxe release of Purple Rain. While a solo recording, it is listed here as a Prince and the Revolution track as it was recorded for the Purple Rain album and in 2017 released as a bonus track on the Purple Rain Deluxe album, which are both credited to Prince and the Revolution.
