Under The Cherry Moon was the second Prince movie to be released in home video format. It was released in November 1986 in the USA with a PG-13 rating. When released in the United Kingdom the film was rated age 15 and up, although when released on DVD it was changed to age 12 and up and runs for approximately 98 minutes.

The home video reached Billboard Top Video Cassette Rentals chart at position 31 but failed to enter the Top Video Cassette Sales chart.

It was initially released on VHS, Betamax and Laser Video format in the USA.

The film was released on DVD on 24 August 2004 (with promo-videos of Girls & Boys, Mountains, Kiss, and Anotherloverholenyohead and the theatrical trailer as bonuses) and Blu-ray format on 4 October 2016.
