Jadestone is the seventh track on Ingrid Chavez’s eponymous album. Lyrics for the track were written by Prince, with music written and performed by Prince (as Paisley Park).
Although specific recording dates are unknown, Ingrid Chavez’s vocal track was recorded with an improvised sound effect backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (shortly after cancelling the release of “The Black Album”, during the same set of sessions as Reason Enough, Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Whispering Dandelions, Slappy Dappy, Candle Dance, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Sad Puppet Dance, Standing In The Rain and Cross The Line). Prince recorded a new musical backing for the track in early March 1991, at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California (during the same set of sessions as recording new musical backings for Elephant Box, Slappy Dappy and Whispering Dandelions).
