Lovesexy is the sixth song on Prince's tenth album Lovesexy. In 1989, a live version was included on the Lovesexy Live 1 VHS, taken from the 9 September 1988 live TV broadcast.
Initial tracking took place on 14 December 1987 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (two days after No and Positivity, and the day before Sheila E. recorded lead vocal overdubs on Latino Barbie Doll). The music, however, was completely different than the released track, described by Eric Leeds as "lighter, bouncier". The original version was included on the first configuration of Lovesexy compiled on 21 January 1988, but Prince still wasn't happy with the track. Keeping the lyrics, Prince created new music, and recorded a new solo version on 29 January 1988 (two days before recording I Wish U Heaven), which was included as the sixth track on an early February configuration of Lovesexy, where it remained for the final release.
