Providence is the twelfth track on singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco’s tenth solo studio album To The Teeth, and features Prince (as ) singing background vocals. Providence was included as the fourth track of the european edition of the promotional single Wish I May, released shortly before the album.
Prince met Ani DiFranco and Maceo Parker following her concert at the Midway Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 3 July 1999, and invited them back to Paisley Park Studios, where DiFranco added guitar to Love U, But Don’t Trust U Anymore and Parker added saxophone to Prettyman.
Providence was recorded by Ani DiFranco and her band on 31 July 1999 in New Orleans, Louisiana with Prince (as ) likely adding his vocals at a time in late Summer - early Autumn, 1999, presumably at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
