Proud Mary by the New Power Generation is an unreleased cover version of the track by Creedence Clearwater Revival (from the 1969 album Bayou Country, also released as a single in 1969), recorded in late 1994 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as New Power Generation versions of Acknowledge Me, Super Hero, Outa-Space, Love... Thy Will Be Done, Funky and Somebody’s Somebody). The track was included as the 13th track (tenth song) on the 2 December 1994 configuration of Exodus, but the track was removed from later configurations, and remains unreleased.
Prince performed a brief live version of the song in 2004 on The Art Of Musicology TV special, where he noted it was one of the first songs he learned how to play.
