Sunday Afternoon is the tenth and final track on Candy Dulfer’s second album Sax-A-Go-Go (ninth track on the US edition). The instrumental was written by Prince, but re-recorded by Candy Dulfer’s band, so it does not contain any direct musical input by Prince. Prince expected Dulfer to record over his music, but she didn’t want to wait from him to send the 24-track stems, so she quickly learned the song with her own musicians and recorded her own version.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in 1992 (most likely at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota). Candy Dulfer’s version was recorded in 1992 or early 1993 at Studio Zeezicht in Spaarndam, The Netherlands, with additional recording at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, The Netherlands. The released track has a time of 7:15, with a short instrumental reprise of the horn motif from the track, titled 'Jamming', following after a brief pause, bringing the total time to 8:07.
