Sax-A-Go-Go is the second solo studio album by Dutch saxophonist Candy Dulfer, and was released in March 1993 (on the same day as the UK release of Prince and the New Power Generation’s single The Morning Papers).
The album contained one instrumental track written by Prince, titled Sunday Afternoon. It was re-recorded by Candy Dulfer’s band, and contains no musical input by Prince.
Sessions and compiling
Prince had sent several tracks to Candy Dulfer to choose from for the album, and she felt Sunday Afternoon suited the feel of the album best. It is not known which other songs were offered. Although Candy Dulfer had appeared on Prince recordings prior to this release, this album contains the first (and only) contribution by Prince to Candy Dulfer’s solo career.
Promotion
The album produced four singles, 2 Funky, Sax-A-Go-Go, I Can’t Make You Love Me and Pick Up The Pieces. The album reached number 56 on the UK Gallup Album Chart, but did not chart in the USA.
