Time Waits For No One is the eighth and final track on Mavis Staples' first Paisley Park Records album Time Waits For No One, and, in 1989, Time Waits For No One was released as the album's second single.
While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking took place in the final week of June 1988, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions where he revised Come Home, I Guess I'm Crazy and Train). The song was then sent (along with Come Home, I Guess I'm Crazy and Train) to Mavis Staples in Memphis, TN, USA, where she recorded lead vocal overdubs with producers Al Bell, Homer Banks and Lester Snell at Ardent Studios. Writing credit is shared with Staples as the song is based on a demo she had brought to Prince.
