Pop Life (Official Animated Video) is a newly-created animated music video for Pop Life. It was created and released by The Prince Estate on 28 November 2025. The video is directed by Kii Arens.

Pop Life was the only single from Around The World In A Day that did not have an accompanying video at the time of its release in the summer of 1985, although in 1986 some TV-channels showed Pop Life-footage taken from the 7 June 1986 at Cobo Hall, Detroit, MI, USA show, also originating the Anotherloverholenyohead video. As this was filmed a year after the single’s release, this video created by Estate to promote the Around The World In A Day (40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) is also the first formal visual accompaniment to the track. It was put online when the Around The World In A Day - The Singles (collection) was released.

The video comprises footage of the Around The World In A Day album cover brought to life, but that idea is buried beneath the disjointed graphic sequences attempting to evoke the psychedelic aesthetic of the album, with archival live footage from the first public live performance of the song (on 3 March 1986 at the First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, USA). Despite the use of live footage, the audio in the video is the studio version of the song.

Items associated with Prince, quite a few anachronistically, including the (now animated) album cover, designed by Doug Henders, the (also animated) Purple Rain dust jacket face painting, the Purple Rain motorcycle, white ‘Cloud’ guitar replicas, the Linn LM-1, the Raspberry Beret video outfit, the stage used outfit from the 3 March 1986 First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, USA show and handwritten lyrics and sheet music of the song are also featured. Furthermore, the seemingly amateurishly-made video uses generic and perfunctory stock material — such as a random bathtub, different TVs from the Shutterstock database, a wall of TVs from the Envato template database and an AI-generated purple Tootsie Pop - as well as other Envato and stock visuals, templates and graphics.

Additional Information

See Also Quotation & triva

  • The video was premiered at Paisley Park Studios on 21 November 2025.
  • Despite the video of the 3 March 1986 at the First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, USA video recently being restored and shown at an event at Paisley Park Studios, the footage use for the Pop Life (Official Animated Video) comprises the none-restored material.
  • Although Pop Life is credited to Prince and the Revolution, The Revolution name is as good scrubbed of the video, with newly created 1985 era styled logos omitting the band’s name. The band name can only briefly be seen in the sheet music footage.
  • Two different 'Cloud' guitars are used in the video. Neither of them were used by Prince, nor Schecter or Dave Rusan built replicas. Both are seemingly knock-off builds.
  • In the video an AI generated grape flavored Tootsie Pop Roll can be seen, with the words 'Pop Life' instead of the brand name. Prince famously preferred the cherry flavored variant.
  • In the days prior to the music video release, the audio for the promotional teaser was muted on Facebook due to a copyright claim.
  • Until this was corrected on 1 December 2025 the video was inexplicably only visible in the USA.
