Whispering Dandelions is the eleventh and final track on Ingrid Chavez’s eponymous album. A few months after the album’s release, it was also included on Hippy Blood, the album’s second and final commercial single. Lyrics for the track were written by Ingrid Chavez, with music written and performed by Prince (as Paisley Park).

Although specific recording dates are unknown, Ingrid Chavez’s vocal track was recorded with an improvised musical backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (shortly after cancelling the release of “The Black Album”, during the same set of sessions as Reason Enough, Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Slappy Dappy, Candle Dance, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Jadestone, Sad Puppet Dance, Standing In The Rain and Cross The Line). Prince added some sound effects to the track in early March 1991, at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California (during the same set of sessions as recording new musical backings for Elephant Box, Slappy Dappy and Jadestone). Unlike the other tracks on the album, the original musical backing was left in, rather than erased.
