Although official writing credit is split between Prince (music) and Carmen Electra (lyrics), the track was originally recorded by Prince in 1989, before he began working with Electra.

In 2014, Anna Fantastic posted a video on her Facebook page of a rehearsal for a performance video of the song, dated 14 February 1989, suggesting it may have been intended as a single.
