Allegiance is the fourth solo studio album by former Shalamar singer Howard Hewett, and was released in November 1992 (on the same day as two singles by Prince and the New Power Generation - 7 and Damn U). The album contained the title track Allegiance, a track written by Prince (although he did not play on the released version). Sessions and compiling Allegiance was recorded by Prince initially in May 1988 and likely updated in 1991. The song was initially sent to Nia Peeples with three other (unidentified) songs when she was working to work on her second album, produced by Hewett (who was her husband at that time). When Peeples rejected the four songs, Hewett kept Allegiance for himself and re-recorded it, with Timothy Riley producing between late 1991 and late 1992. Promotion The album produced one single, Save Your Sex For Me. The album did not enter the US Billboard Pop Chart, and reached only number 73 on the Billboard R&B Chart.
