Electric Chair is the second track on Prince’s eleventh album Batman (the motion picture soundtrack to the Tim Burton movie Batman). Eleven months after the album’s release, a remix of the track by William Orbit and Mark Moore was included as the b-side of The Future, the album’s fifth and final commercially-released single (available in Europe only). The vocals on the album are credited to a character from the movie, as if Prince is singing on their behalf. Electric Chair, like Partyman and Trust, is attributed to The Joker. Basic tracking took place on 6 June 1988 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (three days before Pink Cashmere, Pickle and Times Squared (recorded as Sticky Wicked)). Prince’s performance on a special 10th anniversary edition of the TV show Saturday Night Live is notable for being the first live performance to feature Michael B. on drums, and Candy Dulfer on saxophone, both of whom would play regularly with Prince over the coming years. It was also the only time Patrice Rushen and Margie Cox performed with him on stage.
