Electric Chair is the second track on Prince's eleventh album Batman (the motion picture soundtrack to the Tim Burton movie Batman), and, eleven months after the album's release, a remix of the track by William Orbit was included as the b-side of The Future, the album's fifth and final commercially-released single (available in Europe only).
Initial tracking took place on 6 June, 1988 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (three days before Pink Cashmere, Pickle and Times Squared (recorded as Sticky Wicked).
Prince's performance on a special 10th anniversary edition of the TV show Saturday Night Live is notable for being the first live performance to feature Michael B. on drums, and Candy Dulfer on saxophone, both of whom would play regularly with Prince over the coming years.
