Get Wild was first released as the twelfth track on the Prêt A Porter movie soundtrack, and three months later was included (in an alternate mix) as the second track (first song) on the New Power Generation’s second 'solo' album Exodus. A week prior to the Exodus album release, Get Wild was released as the album’s first single in the UK and Europe. The single contained various remixes. When played live, Prince (as ) often stated that Sonny T. wrote the track, but Prince and the New Power Generation share the credits at the ASCAP.
Basic tracking took place on 15 May 1994 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (on the same day as New Power Soul, Hallucination Rain, Slave 2 The System, Count The Days,It Takes 3 and possibly The Exodus Has Begun). The Exodus album version and other remixes were developed later at unknown dates. The initial take of Get Wild was a full band recording. Prince later reworked the song by himself in the studio and used samples from the original version. The Prêt A Porter version (and some remixes) also contain spoken segments by an uncredited woman, sampled from Goldnigga Pt.2.
A longer version of the song was included as the fourth track (second song) on the 19 June 1994 configuration of Exodus, and the final version of the song was included as the second track (first song) on the 2 December 1994 configuration, following the NPG Operator Intro as on the final album. Prince’s rap from the album version of the song was later reused in P. Control (House Mix), recorded later in 1995.
On 12 June 2012, a 19:00 rehearsal version of Days Of Wild containing interpolations of Ain’t Nobody, Get Wild, America and Wild And Loose by Prince and the New Power Generation was streamed on Cassandra O’Neal Facebook page and Shelby J. Soundcloud page.
