Lauriann is a song initially recorded on 3 September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studios, Tokyo, Japan (during the same set of sessions as Strollin’, Willing And Able, Money Don’t Matter 2 Night, Something Funky (This House Comes) and 5 Women). Lauriann was mixed on 18 September 1990 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
A new version with almost completely new lyrics and a slight title change to Laurianne was recorded by Prince, Michael B. and Sonny T. on 30 December 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Lauriann was submitted for copyright at the Library of Congress (along with Dream) on 5 April 1993. It is unknown if the song by then was intended for, or later considered for any specific project.
The original 1990 recording of Lauriann was released in October 2023 as the fifth track of Vault Tracks part 1, one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition.
