Patrick "Spot" Epstein

1983-1993

Originally working for the First Avenue club, and being a stand-in during the filming of Purple Rain, Pat Epstein directed Prince live performances at First Avenue including those on 3 August 1983 and 7 June 1984, 03 March 1986, 21 March 1987 and the The Family show there on 13 August 1985. He was also responsible for direction of the 31 December 1987 New Years Eve benefit at Paisley Park Studios. Furthermore Epstein directed videos for Alphabet St., edited together an unreleased video for the 12" Remix of Sexy M.F. and (co-)directed videos for Robin Power’s Number 1, Eric Leeds’s Little Rock and George Clinton’s Tweakin’, (which remains unreleased). He was also the editor of the 3 Chains O’ Gold home video for which Prince supplied him with all the videos and requested he‘d made something of it with no further directon. Epstein also served as veejay for the Glam Slam in Minneapolis for some time.
