God was released as the b-side of Purple Rain, the third single from Prince's seventh album Purple Rain. The UK 12" release of the single contained God (Love Theme From Purple Rain), a 7:54 instrumental version heard in the movie Purple Rain, but other worldwide releases contained a completely re-recorded vocal version, simply titled God. Basic tracking for God (Love Theme From Purple Rain) took place on 7 February, 1984 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (six days before Noon Rendezvous).
