Girl 6 is the soundtrack album to the 1996 Warner Bros. movie Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee.

All of the music in the movie was by Prince and his associated artists; the bulk of it was previously-released.

The album contained three previously-unreleased tracks, She Spoke 2 Me (later released in a longer version on The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale) and Don't Talk 2 Strangers, both by Prince, and Girl 6, by the New Power Generation.

A note of thanks to Spike Lee written by Prince was included in the booklet.

The album caused some confusion, since it used the name "Prince" heavily, while Prince had changed his name to almost three years earlier.

Prince put out a press release to say that the songs were recorded before the name change, but in fact the song Girl 6, credited to the New Power Generation but featuring lyrics and production credited to "Prince", was recorded in December 1995, two and a half years after the name change.


Promotion

The album produced one single, Girl 6, by the New Power Generation.

The album reached number 75 on The Billboard 200 Chart, and number 15 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart.
