- This show was billed as ‘Rally 4 Peace’ and was announced on 5 May, 2015. It was inspired by social unrest in Baltimore, MD after Baltimore teen Freddie Gray died while in police custody. Patrons of Prince’s show were asked to 'wear something gray' for the occasion.
- Tickets went on sale on 6 May, 2015 at 5 PM EDT with a two ticket limit per household.
- ($ 72.00 ($ 89.90) tickets were not put on sale until late Friday 8 May.
- When announcing the show, Live Nation, the concert's promoter, advertized that "several industry superstars" were expected to appear at the show. In the end the artists that appeared onstage were rapper Doug E. Fresh, who has appeared at numerous occasions as a guest with Prince, new protegee Judith Hill, Eryn Allen Kane, Miguel and Estelle. Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé were also in attendance, but did not appear on stage. Questlove was also in attendance, backstage.
- On 8 May, 2015 via a press-release Jay Z's streaming service TIDAL announced it would live stream 60 minutes of audio from the concert, for free (pre-pay wall). This broadcast included the pre-show DJ set by Dudley D. as well as the first part of the show, fading out during the intro to I Would Die 4 U during the sampler set.
- An unspecified part of the proceeds of the show benefited Baltimore-based youth charities.
- Before the show a newly made remix by Dudley D. was played over the PA, comprising Dear Mr. Man / Sign O' The Times / Undisputed (The Moneyapolis Mix) / Peace / Race / New World / The Future / We March / Act Of God / Family Name / When Will We B Paid? / Love Sign (Shock G's Silky Remix) / Slave and Colonized Mind
- Before Purple Rain Prince beckoned Baltimore's State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who had been sitting side-stage on a couch' to the front, but not introduce her by name.
