  • This track is not believed to have been performed live by Prince. A clip of the scene from the film Purple Rain in which a sample of "Backwards Woman" is heard was played over the PA during an interlude on the Musicology Tour in 2004. Since it was an excerpt from the film (with the dialogue between The Kid and Apollonia included), it is not considered a performance of the song itself.

Backwards Woman is a composition created for the film Purple Rain, tracked on 8 February 1984, on the same day as percussion overdubs on The Glamorous Life, at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, California. Apart from the actual songs it is the only composition from the score that is written by Prince and not Michel Colombier who did the rest of the score.

It is the music used under the scene where Apollonia first visits The Kid's home and presses play on a cassette deck which has a tape with this music playing. The song was copyrighted at ASCAP together with the rest of the score.

Although about a minute and a half of it is featured in the movie, it did not get any official release as such and the song is therefore considered unreleased.

The song contains a drumbeat quite similar to the one in Noon Rendezvous, overdubbed with back masked moaning of a woman, Jill Jones confirmed to be her.
