Lauriann was mixed on 18 September 1990 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

A new version with almost completely new lyrics and a slight title change to Laurianne was recorded by Prince, Michael B. and Sonny T. on 30 December 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Lauriann was submitted for copyright at the Library of Congress (along with Dream) on 5 April 1993. It is unknown if the song by then was intended for, or later considered for any specific project.

The original 1990 recording of Lauriann was released as one of the songs on the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe in 2023.
