Susannah's Pajamas is the seventh track on The Family's first and only album The Family, and, two months after the album's release, it was included as the b-side of High Fashion, the album's second and final single. Susannah's Pajamas was written by Prince and Eric Leeds, but credited only to Eric Leeds.
While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking (under the track's original title, Mazarati, took place in late June, 1984 at the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie (during the same set of sessions that produced High Fashion, Mutiny, River Run Dry and Desire). The track was originally intended for Mazarati's album Mazarati, but when it was used instead for The Family, Prince changed the title. A track titled BMW appears on an undated early work-in-progress configuration of the album, and this is believed to be the same track renamed after a different make of car. It was then renamed after Susannah Melvoin.
