The Halls Of Desire is the fourth track (third song) on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready, and, in 1994, The Halls Of Desire was available as single in some territories (in Germany as a promotional single, in Japan as an EP and in Australia as a maxi-single). It was released shortly before the album’s final single, Don’t Say Goodbye Girl, which also contained remixes of The Halls Of Desire. Most of these remixes were compiled in 2022 for a digital release (under the title The Halls Of Desire (Remixes). The song was written and produced by Prince under the pseudonym Paisley Park.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (along with Down, Holly Don’t Care, The P, Paris 1798430, Uncle Sam and a revamped version of Shhh, when Prince became involved in Tevin Campbell’s album I’m Ready). Both Prince’s and Tevin Campbell’s early versions of The Halls Of Desire featured a vocal intro containing the line “So we’re alone now, and I’m feeling grown now.” This intro was omitted from the album version but retained in most of the remixes.
Prince’s version (guide vocal) of The Halls Of Desire was one of the Vault tracks recorded between 1990 and 1992 slated to appear on the planned Diamonds & Love expected to be released by The Prince Estate in the summer of 2022. That project, which consisted of material spanning both the Diamonds And Pearls and  eras, was reduced to the Diamonds And Pearls era, excluding songs recorded after October 1991 (and this track as a result).
