Child Of The Sun is the first and only studio album by Mayte, and was released in November 1995 in Europe only on NPG Records (Warner Bros. refused to release the album in the USA).
Sessions and compiling
All but one of the 12 tracks were written or co-written by Prince (with the other, House Of Brick (Brick House), being a cover version of the Commodores track Brick House), and all contain him playing some instruments, with significant contributions from other bandmembers.
An early version of the album was titled Latino Barbie Doll, and contained several tracks which were removed as the album progressed; Latino Barbie Doll, If I Could Get Your Attention, Telepathy, Violet Blue, Slow Love, Hold Me and ¿Quieres Ser El Mas Bello De Este Mundo? (which was included on the single of The Most Beautiful Boy In The World).
Of the ten English-language tracks included on Latino Barbie Doll, eight were Mayte’s versions of tracks released on earlier Prince-related albums (If I Love U Tonight, Love’s No Fun, If I Could Get Your Attention, Telepathy, Violet Blue, Slow Love, Hold Me and The Most Beautiful Boy In The World), in addition to the two Spanish-language tracks, Si Te Amo Esta Noche and ¿Quieres Ser El Mas Bello De Este Mundo?
Promotion
The album produced four singles, The Most Beautiful Boy In The World, If Love U 2night (both of which preceded the album), House Of Brick (Brick House) (which was available as a promotional single only) and Rhythm Of Your ♥ (which received a limited release in 1998).
The album failed to enter the charts.
In 1998, Love4OneAnother.com announced an album release by Mayte called Scorpio, which was to contain some of the same tracks from Child Of The Sun with some newly-recorded tracks in addition. This project never came to pass, and it is not clear if this was completed.
