  • Partyman had a lot of radio airplay before its street release, as reported in Billboard of 26 August 1989 (Vol. 101 No. 34):

    "Prince has a great week, as his new single, "Partyman" (Warner Bros.) shipping to stores this week, is the Hot Shot Debut at No. 46 with more than a half of the radio panel reporting airplay. "Partyman" is already top 20 at stations where it has been played as an album cut, including WNOK Columbia, SC (16-14) and B96 Chicago (27-18)."
