Billboard Hot Dance Disco Chart
Billboard Hot Dance Disco Chart
Definition
Below are listed all Prince singles that have hit the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco Chart. Created in October 1974, the Billboard Disco Action chart (as named then) was initialy a survey of New York City dance clubs but it soon evolved into a compilation from a selection of most played tracks, submitted by dance club DJs in 15 metropolitan cities. The chart was many times renamed and the number of position varied from 10 (1974) to 100 (1979-1981), back to 80 (until 1985) and nowadays 50.
DJs selection included album cuts, promo records cuts, 7" and/or 12" tracks. The "From" column indicates the format listed by Billboard for the tracks that made the charts (an album or a single). Top 10 hits are highlighted in light purple. Release dates are those valid for the USA.
Of note, Prince is ranked #1 of the Top 20 Dance/Disco Artists Per Decade for the 1980s and #5 of the Top 200 Dance/Disco Artists (in 2003).
Visit Billboard Hot 100 for an history of Prince’s singles hits in the US Pop charts and The Billboard 200 for the albums' hits in the US pop charts.
The Billboard charts are published on Wednesdays and feature the club airplay figures collected for the week ending the preceding Saturday.
