Sex was released as the b-side on The Scandalous Sex Suite, the maxi-single of Scandalous!, the fourth single from Prince’s eleventh album Batman, the companion album to the hit movie Batman.
While specific recording dates are unknown, basic tracking took place in Summer 1989, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Additional recording for Loïs Lane’s version took place in early 1992 at Paisley Park Studios (during the same set of sessions that produced The Continental, Damn U, The Flow, Born 2 B.R.E.E.D., With This Tear and Qualified).
Prince later gave a remixed version of the track to Dutch band Loïs Lane, who released it on their 1992 album Precious (and as the album’s final single in March 1993). Their version was included as the ninth track on the Hit Singles 86/96 compilation, and as the fourteenth track on both The Universal Masters Collection and Het Mooiste Van Loïs Lane.
