Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition is the deluxe remaster box set of Prince’s thirteenth album Diamonds And Pearls (credited to Prince and the New Power Generation), including a disc of remastered b-sides and remixes, three CDs of vault tracks ("Vault I, Vault II" and "Vault III"), a full show of live audio from the 11 January 1992 show at Glam Slam, Minneapolis, MN ("Live At Glam Slam, 1992"), and a Blu-Ray release of that same show, the 20 July 1991 Special Olympics performance at the Minneapolis Metrodome, as well as its soundcheck, and the full Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection, previously only available on VHS (released in 1992) and DVD (released in 2006). A vinyl edition is also available, along with smaller configurations using only the remastered album, and/or with the b-sides/remixes. On 13 April 2025, "Live At Glam Slam, 1992" was re-released solely (as "Live At Glam Slam") in a limited quantity (4 000 copies worldwide) for the Record Store Day. Sessions and compiling See Diamonds And Pearls for details on recording of the thirteen original tracks. The Prince Estate started to work on Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition in 2020, following the release of Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition. The set has been years in the making and was the subject of some online controversy when it became apparent that initial plans were a set consisting of material spanning both the Diamonds And Pearls and eras. The set (tentatively planned to be titled Diamonds & Love) was expected to be released in the summer of 2022, after a screening of the 11 January 1992 show at Glam Slam, Minneapolis as part of Celebration 2022. A 7" single with live versions of Diamonds And Pearls and Nothing Compares 2 U taken from this show was given to attendees. In August 2022 Prince’s estate was split between Prince Legacy LLC and Prince OAT Holdings LLC (owned by music publishing company Primary Wave) and with the new team the decision was made to condense box set to focus solely on the Diamonds And Pearls era. The set includes 75 audio tracks across 7 CDs/12LPs, of which 47 are previously unreleased (33 studio tracks recorded between July 1990 and early October 1991 and 14 from a live performance). The original album and b-sides have been remastered for the very first time by Prince’s original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman. The set also includes an entire previously unreleased audio recording of Prince and the New Power Generation’s preview performance of the Diamonds And Pearls Tour at Prince’s Minneapolis club, Glam Slam, on 11 January 1992. The Blu-ray features the same show (presented in 2K video with Dolby Atmos / Dolby True HD 5.1 / Stereo audio), as well as the Special Olympics Concert recorded on 20 July 1991 and broadcast on USA on 15 August 1991, as part of a special titled Victory and Valor: A Special Olympics All Star Celebration. For this set this footage was featured in 1080p HD video with Dolby Atmos/ Dolby True HD 5.1 / Stereo audio)> also included was the soundcheck for the same performance, recorded on 19 July 1991, and featured on this set in 2K video with Stereo audio. The Blu-ray content is completed by the inclusion of a restored version of the Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection (in 1080p video with Stereo audio), originally released in October 1992. The Super Deluxe Edition is accompanied by a fold out poster and a 12", 120 page hardback book featuring rare (some previously unseen) photography by Randee St. Nicholas, handwritten lyrics by Prince and essays by author & broadcaster Andrea Swensson, Archivist and Senior Researcher for The Prince Estate Duane Tudahl, British music critic and Prince expert Jason Draper, De Angela L. Duff, an Industry Professor at NYU Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn, Social Media Personality KaNisa Williams, and an introduction from Public Enemy founder, Chuck D.. Promotion The set was teased for months on social media. A pre-announcement was made on the official Prince social media channels on 21 August 2023. The 7cd+Blu-ray/12LP+Blu-Ray set was announced on 24 August. Along with the announcement, the previously unreleased tracks Alice Through The Looking Glass and Insatiable (Early Mix - Full Version) were released digitally. A promotional video for the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition was also released on 24 August 2023. Cream (Take 2), Get Blue, Live 4 Love and Live 4 Love (Early version) were released on streaming platforms on 28 September 2023 as a preview for the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe. Somewhat peculiarly, the remastered album in Dolby Atmos was also made available on streaming platform on the same day, a month before its announced release. Like for the previous releases, a podcast, titled “The Story of Diamonds And Pearls” was also made. In this audio-documentary Levi Seacer, Jr., Michael B., Sonny T. Tommy Barbarella], Rosie Gaines, Tony M., Damon Dickson and Kirk Johnson among others, share stories about the making-of the album. Like the previous iterations this podcast was presented by Minneapolis Music journalist Andrea Swensson. The first episode was available on 12 October 2023, with three further episodes at a weekly interval. Charts The album (the original remastered edition only) entered Billboard Top R&B Albums at number 10. Additional Information Promotion (at time of release) Trivia In addition to the songs related to the Diamonds And Pearls era recorded between July 1990 and early October 1991, the planned Diamonds & Love set contained unreleased material from the album era, recorded between October 1991 and September 1992, the remastered album as well as remixed and single versions. The following songs (the exact sequence is unknown) were considered for this project: Dream, Face 2 Face, Remember Me, In The Middle Of The Night, Goodbye, Baby Doll, There and The P, Prince’s versions of House In Order, Blood Is Thicker Than Time, Paris 17984302, The Halls Of Desire, Holly Don’t Care, Super Hero, With This Tear, The Ryde Dyvine and 51 Hours, and alternate takes or mixes of Extraordinary, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (Church Style), Race (with Tony M.), A 1,000 Hugs And Kisses, The Flow, 3 Chains O’ Gold, Love 2 The 9's and Arrogance.
